Keywords:The seaside resort of Waikouati, half an hour north of Dunedin, boasts one of the country's few early architecturally designed bank buildings that is still in use.
It is home to the Waikouaiti Coast Heritage Centre’s large collection of historic artefacts and memorabilia dating back to the days of the early European settlers.
Many of the exhibits are displayed as they would have originally been used, in kitchens, parlours and other rooms. Even the main desk was the bank's original counter.
However, the building is now too small to hold the entire collection and an additional exhibition center is planned.
