                | Keywords:A dream to create a series of Waikato cycling and walking trails along the Waikato River has become a reality with the opening in November 2011 of the Waikato River Trails. The Waikato River Trails is creating access for walking, biking and tramping along New Zealand's longest river - the mighty Waikato.

 Experience the Unseen
The trails cover about 100km of previously inaccessible Southern Waikato land. They wind their way along a path that encompasses the magic and beauty of New Zealand native bush, exotic forest, historic landmarks, interesting rock formations and geological delights.

Be inspired as you walk or cycle through grassed farmland, open reserves, boardwalks over significant wetlands, and expansive lake and river views. Click here to view some of the highlights you can see while walking or cycling along the Waikato River Trails.

Public access to these natural assets has only been made possible by construction of the trails. The driving force behind this project is the keen group of volunteers who are the Waikato River Trails Trust. Interested in finding out more about becoming a Waikato River Trails volunteer?
